January 20, 2011

Yup, it's that time of year again. I'm only a couple of weeks away from the end of my crazy busy season so the reflecting, tidying, and new challenge making is about to begin. So what better to start with than a look back at 2010? It was a really wonderful year - one of immense intellectual growth for me. Lots of time studying and learning about images and intense critique of my own work. Looking back through these images brings me right into the moments in which they were made - all the jitters, laughs, sweaty dance floors, silence... the incredible range of human connection that I get to witness and document during a wedding celebration.

For me, it's always been about documenting relationships - the relationship between two or more people, between people and their environment, people and their stuff... I always go back to what I believe to be the most important thing I learned in acting school about the human condition: behavior defines character and environment shapes behavior. What we do and how we do it gets at the core of who we are as individuals. The environment [physical, emotional, spiritual, etc] seasons that behavior. It gives whatever we are doing shape, contour, and context. People are so dang beautiful and fascinating. I just can't help but marvel and get caught up. The mundane is miraculous. Just keep your eyes open. All you have to do is notice it.

So with that, I now, ever so humbly, present to you The Best of Love, 2010. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful moments that are our constitution.

You know, if you are interested you can check out The Best of Love, 2009. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about how my image making has evolved, changed, some differences between the years...

Be Joyful. Seek the joy of being alive.

Stunning stuff, Eric. I'd love to tell you that your work has grown and evolved leaps and bounds from 2009 but quite honestly, I just love ALL of it!

I would rather participate in your poetry than watch the Super Bowl... I watched The Best of Love 2009 first and loved it - then I watched 2010 and I felt more complete when the last image hit me. Beautiful people, beautiful surroundings, you captured it all and your images evoke amazing emotions... Thank you for sharing your gift! I can't wait for Susan and TIm's celebration in August...

Great photography, so refreshing to see pictures that are focused on the people and their emotions rather than the "wedding". I really admire your work.
